About Me

My name is Lachie Chugg and I am from the South East suburbs of Melbourne, doing most of my work around Mornington Peninsula and Southern areas of Melbourne.
My Passion for photography and especially sports photography was always there from a very young age, however I didn't really know until I was about 15 when I picked up a DSLR camera for the first time. I was at the Sandown 500 and my uncle offered me to have a go at his camera and take some shots of the V8 Supercars. That day really ignited the passion for me and I felt like I had the natural eye for a decent shot.
From there, I got my first DSLR for Christmas in 2017 and would regularly shoot landscape photography on the Mornington Peninsula. I decided to give photography a crack at school, picking media as one of my subjects in year 9. It was top of my subject preferences every year through to year 12, and through a lot of hard work and passion, I managed to get some good results in year 12.
One thing that was common in all of my free choice media assignments was that all of them generally revolved around sport. In Year 11, I went to the holy grail of motorsport, Mount Panorama, Bathurst, and took photos at the iconic Bathurst 1000 for my major project and in Year 12 for my major assignment I was lucky enough to be able to visit 2 V8 Supercar garages to capture the work the teams put in behind the scenes.
After school, I wasn't sure what I wanted to do. after conversations with the careers counsellor I decided to combine my two passions, sport and photography and enroll in a sports media university course at Swinburne University. This is where I learnt how to get the most out of my camera and how to technically improve my photos. I also learnt how to create videos and short documentaries which I also found a strong passion for and still enjoy to this day.
From University I managed to build up some relationships and connections and in April 2021 I had my first Saturday working as a sports photographer at the local footy for Game Face, a local sports media agency.
After a few years of working hard on my craft, in August of 2023 I decided to make sports photography my full time job!
This enabled me to start taking things to the next level and start landing more professional level jobs. In 2024 I linked up with the Collingwood Football Club and covered their VFL season as well as some event and even AFL matches for the club. My motorsport work with TAYCO Creative, covering the Australian Superbike Championship also lead me to shoot major events such as World Superbikes and the Australian MotoGP.
In 2025 I began shooting as a freelancer for the official AFL Photo site and I had my first international job shooting the WorldWCR and World Superbikes at Donington Park in the UK.
